2008 Bridgestone Photo Contest To Highlight Community, Environment and Safety
2008 photo contest is in its seventh edition

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (Oct. 7, 2008) - So, you want to be a professional photographer? Here’s your chance to create the magic and win a cash prize. Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. (BFCA) is giving Canadian post-secondary students the chance to showcase their talent behind the lens in the seventh-annual Bridgestone Photo Contest. This year’s contest, which began on September 2 and runs until December 1, 2008, is expected to attract a record number of students.

Students registered in photography programs at 13 universities or colleges across Canada are participating in the contest, with a total of $42,000 in prize money up for grabs. For each school, the top three images submitted will win a cash prize of $1,500 (first place), $1,000 (second place) and $500 (third place). Judges will also select two national winners from among the first-place finishers, including one grand prize ($2,000) and one special mention ($1,000). In addition to the prize money, students will see their work exhibited on the Bridgestone Photo Contest website and at popular events such as the Grand Prix du Canada F1 race.

New themes for 2008
“We have established three themes for this year’s edition - community, environment and safety,” said Jeremy Smith, Manager, Community & Corporate Relations for Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc. “Our goal is for the students to highlight themes important to our company and to help build awareness for these topics. We’ve been amazed at the passion, creativity and talent these students display in their work. I can’t wait to see this year’s entries,” Smith concluded.

This year’s three judge panel will conduct the judging of the photos during December and January. Judges are chosen from the fields of professional photography, automotive photography and automotive journalism.

The Bridgestone Photo Contest was established in 2002 by BFCA to celebrate the creativity of Canadians enrolled in photography programs. The contest evokes the same innovative spirit and passion for excellence that mirror the core values for the Bridgestone brand: providing superior products with leading-edge technology. Student photographers combine their imagination with advancements in photographic equipment to produce works of stunning quality and creativity.
